In the morning of June 6th, 2024, SHNU Commencement Ceremony and Degree Conferral Ceremony themed "Seventy-Year-Old SHNU Seeing You Off for Dreams" was held on the playground in West Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Normal University (SHNU). The Ceremony was hosted by Associate Professor Huijun ZHU (Deputy Secretary of CPC SHNU Committee, Vice President of SHNU). SHNU's university- and school/college-level leadership, faculty representatives and graduating students attended the Ceremony. Among all attendants, there were nearly 800 SFB bachelor's- and master's-level graduating students, who would soon leave the campus and become part of the wider community.
At the Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN (Secretary of CPC SHNU Committee) read out the "Decision on Honoring 'Shanghai Municipal-level Outstanding Graduates in Higher Education Institutions' and 'SHNU Outstanding Graduates'". Following that, Professor Wen YUAN (President of SHNU) delivered a sincere speech, encouraging all SHNU graduates to cultivate their "new quality competitiveness", to meet the challenges and adversity on the way forward with an active mindset and positive actions, and to embrace a future with joy and uncertainties.
Nextly, the grand Degree Conferral Ceremony began. Attendants from 21 schools/colleges of SHNU formed up 12 formations; in each of these formations, SHNU's university- and school/college-level leadership members and faculty representatives performed the "tassel turning" ceremony for graduates. Among them, around 30 SFB leadership members and faculty representatives turned the tassels for SFB graduates. The act of turning the tassel on a student's graduation cap from right to left is a visual representation of him/her officially being recognized as a graduate and recipient of his/her degree; furthermore, this signifies that he/she is about to step out of the ivory tower and start a new chapter in his/her life.
"When you set foot on the platform and start the journey alone, I could only bring my deep blessings to you, my deep blessings to you, my dearest friend, wishing you a pleasant journey..." As the Commencement Ceremony approaching the end, Mr. Chen HONG (Secretary of CYLC SFB Committee, School Counselor for 2024 SFB Graduating Class), as one of the lead singers, sent his sincere blessings to the graduates with his affectionate singing. Mr. Yaowen CAO, an SHNU master's-level graduating student representative who was going to join SFB as a school counselor, participated in performance of a rap song adapted from "My Sky", demonstrating SHNU graduates' courage to strive for future, and the valiant efforts and dreams of Chinese youth in this new era.
SFB has prepared gift packages for graduating students who attended the Commencement Ceremony. Each item in the packages was carefully selected, of both commemoration benefit and practical value. These SFB-customized items include: canvas tote bags with painting of SHNU campus landscape, SFB graduation books, multi charger cables, handheld electric fans, DIY T-shirts and so on, all of which represent SFB's deep emotions for the graduates. In addition, SFB has thoughtfully prepared water and snacks for the graduates, smoothing their hearts before they leave the campus.
After the Commencement Ceremony, SFB graduates claimed their gift packages in SFB Shared Learning Space, and expressed their affection for SFB and how reluctant they were to leave the school and their alma mater. Following that, they took photos with SFB faculty members one after another; cameras captured their bright smiles, and photos will memorize these beautiful moments. On LED screens in SFB lobby, a graduation video clip and an SFB message video were played continuously. In the SFB message video, school leadership and faculty representatives showed up in succession, sending their earnest celebrations and hopes for SFB graduates. Youth will be cherished, and the future will be promising. SFB hopes that, after traveling through mountains and rivers in life, all 2024 graduates could finally reunite with their ideals.
