The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is one of China's important regions for its highly dynamic economy, top level of openness, and outstanding innovation capability. It embraces many of Fortune Global 500 companies, and it is a gathering place for capital, outstanding talents, and cutting-edge technologies. In recent years, the GBA Area is attracting more and more SFB alumni to start their businesses there. Recently, in order to consolidate connections with alumni, and to promote in-depth exchanges and cooperation with alumni, SFB has successfully organized a number of alumni-related activities in Shenzhen, a megacity in the GBA Area.
In the afternoon of May 24th, the "Meeting for SFB Alumni Representatives Based in the GBA Area" was held in Shenzhen. SHNU and SFB leadership and faculty representatives, including: Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN (Secretary of CPC SHNU Committee), Mr. Jiahua SHI (Director of CPC SHNU Organization Department, Director of SHNU President's Office), Prof. Xiaodong ZOU (Deputy Director-General of SHNU Education Foundation, Adjunct Professor at SFB), Prof. Jianghui LIU (Dean of SFB), Prof. Zhouwei WANG (Director of SFB MBA Center), Mr. Wei CAI (Director of SFB Student Career Development Center, and Deputy Secretary-General of SFB Alumni Association), and about 10 SFB alumni representatives who are based in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Sanya and Guangzhou, including: Dongsheng CHEN, Lin YE, Yufeng CHEN, Feipeng HUANG, and others attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the "Preparatory Group for SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club)" reported to SHNU leadership the preliminary preparatory work, and expressed the expectations from SFB alumni on the establishment of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club).
Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN (Secretary of CPC SHNU Committee) delivered a passionate speech in the meeting. Firstly, Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN briefly introduced SHNU's recent remarkable progresses regarding education achievements, talent cultivation, societal impact, etc., which greatly inspired the attending alumni. Following that, Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN explicited that alumni are essential to SHNU's development, and that only by uniting wisdom and strength from alumni can SHNU form an effective facilitation and a positive impact to its own development. On the occasion of SHNU's 70th anniversary, SHNU holding this alumni activity in Shenzhen representing not only the inheritance of the university's profound historical heritage, but also appreciation and promotion of the deep friendship among alumni, which is of extremely unique and far-reaching significance. And Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN analyzed the positive role of alumni-related work in promoting SHNU's development, optimizing its talent cultivation, and enhancing its international visibility, etc. Finally, Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN expressed highly recognition of SFB's alumni-related work, and extended warm congratulations and best wishes on the establishment of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club).
Nextly, Prof. Jianghui LIU (Dean of SFB) highlighted that alumni are immensely valuable assets to SFB, and that SFB should take the initiative to build a platform for alumni cooperation and exchanges, and be committed to creating more opportunities for communication, collaboration and sharing between alumni, so that SFB alumni could feel a strong sense of belonging, achievement and happiness with SFB. In addition, Prof. Jianghui LIU suggested that SFB's alumni-related work must be carried out in a manner to achieve the goal of "two-way empowerment": on the one hand, alumni can rely on SFB's platform and resources to further promote their personal careers, and to enhance their career level; on the other hand, SFB will be able to make use of alumni's expertise and connections, with a view to achieve qualitative improvement in teaching reform, research innovation, social services and other aspects.
In the exchange session, Mr. Jiahua SHI (Director of CPC SHNU Organization Department, Director of SHNU President's Office) spoke first as an SFB alumnus. He said that he was deeply honored to attend this meeting both as an SHNU function personnel and as an SFB alumnus. Besides, Mr. Jiahua SHI noted that the importance of alumni is obvious because alumni are essential to a university's social communicability and brand impact, and only by closely uniting all alumni, making progress hand in hand with alumni, and keeping facilitating development of the university, can both the university and its alumni achieve a win-win situation, and create a more beautiful future together.
Next in order, Mr. Dongsheng CHEN and other SFB alumni representatives shared their respective learning and working experiences. All SFB alumni representatives agreed that SFB has been committed not only to delivering knowledge and expertise, but also highlighting cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical skills, which will play a crucial role and make a decisive impact in students' future career.
In the afternoon of May 25th, the "Establishment Ceremony of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club)" was held in Shenzhen. Prof. Mingjun JIANG (Vice President of SHNU, Vice President of SHNU Alumni Association), Prof. Xiaodong ZOU (Deputy Director-General of SHNU Education Foundation, Adjunct Professor at SFB), Ms. Yan CHEN (Deputy Director of SHNU President's Office, Secretary-General of SHNU Alumni Association), Ms. Jing ZHANG (Deputy Secretary-General of SHNU Alumni Association), Prof. Jianghui LIU (Dean of SFB, President of SFB Alumni Association) and SFB faculty representatives, and about 50 SFB alumni representatives based in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Huizhou, Sanya, Guilin and other cities attended the Establishment Ceremony.
At the Ceremony, "the Decision by SFB Alumni Association on Establishment of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club)" was announced, and the "Secretariat of the Preparatory Group for SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club)" reported to SHNU and SFB leadership on relevant preliminary preparatory work. At the Ceremony, the "Charter of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club)" was adopted, and council members of the first club council were elected. Mr. Dongsheng CHEN (enrolled in 2005 to SFB's Program "Finance, Bachelor of Economics") was elected as the Director-General of the club council.
On behalf of SHNU Alumni Association, Prof. Mingjun JIANG (Vice President of SHNU, Vice President of SHNU Alumni Association) warmly congratulated on the establishment of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club), and he pointed out that we have blazed a new trail in our pioneer work, and will keep exploring with strength; both SHNU Alumni Association and SFB Alumni Association are supposed to be rest stations for alumni, for them to replenish the energy, to communicate and to collaborate, and to exchange and to unite; in addition, both SHNU Alumni Association and SFB Alumni Association should provide platform for alumni to achieve bigger success. Prof. Mingjun JIANG conveyed hope that more alumni would participate actively, contribute advice and suggestions, work together, and demonstrate the positive energy of SHNUers.
Prof. Jianghui LIU (Dean of SFB, President of SFB Alumni Association) introduce SFB's history, program offerings, disciplinary characteristics, and talent cultivation initiatives. Prof. Jianghui LIU mentioned that, to develop business education with SHNU features and comparative advantages, SFB needs to firstly preserve the heritage of business education and embrace changes; and secondly, the school needs to take advantage of the new era in developing business education with SHNU features. Additionally, Prof. Jianghui LIU put forward three points of expectation regarding future development of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club): to begin with, to build an SFB Alumni Home; nextly, to tell unique SHNU stories, and to promote SHNU heritage; thirdly, to engage alumni in SHNU's and SFB's governance, so that the university, the school and alumni can truly become a high-quality development community with a shared future.
Followingly, Prof. Zhouwei WANG (Director of SFB MBA Center, SFB Faculty Representative), Mr. Ang ZHU (Vice President of SHNU Alumni Association (Guangdong Branch)), Ms. Lin YE (SFB Alumni Representative based in Shanghai), Mr. Dongsheng CHEN (Director-General of the Council of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club)) spoke in succession, expressing their congratulations on the establishment of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club).
Participating SFB alumni representatives shared their experiences after their graduation. They all agreed that as an SHNU and an SFB alumni, each one of them represents the image of their alma mater, and shoulders the responsibility of winning honor for SHNU and SFB. Therefore, they determine to keep pursuing career success, and to transform this success into positive contribution to society. At the same time, they expressed the enthusiasm to remain close contact with SFB, and their belief that the establishment of SFB Alumni Association (GBA Club) will strengthen the connection and ties between alumni and alumni, and between alumni and the school, and improve the cohesion among all alumni.
After that, Prof. Zhouwei WANG (Director of SFB MBA Center) presented each of the attending alumni a meaningful souvenir - an enrollment card kept since the year he/she started studying at SFB SHNU, to express SHNU's and SFB's deep emotions for alumni.
It is worth mentioning that, during the same period, the "Plaque Awarding Ceremony for 'SHNU Education Operation and Management Innovation Practice Base for Postgraduate Students'" was held in Luohu District People's Government in Shenzhen City. Participating leadership representatives include: Assoc. Prof. Zaiyong LIN (Secretary of CPC SHNU Committee), Mr. Jiahua SHI (Director of CPC SHNU Organization Department, Director of SHNU President's Office), Prof. Xiaodong ZOU (Deputy Director-General of SHNU Education Foundation, Adjunct Professor at SFB), Prof. Jianghui LIU (Dean of SFB), Ms. Jian FENG (Standing Committee Member of CPC Luohu District Committee, Deputy District Mayor of Luohu District People's Government), Mr. Yanyong GAO (Director of Luohu District Education Bureau), etc.
The establishment of "SHNU Education Operation and Management Innovation Practice Base for Postgraduate Students" is one of both SHNU's and SFB's important initiatives to deepen the teaching reform and to improve education quality. The Practice Base is aimed to provide a comprehensive practice platform for postgraduate students, to help them to learn in practice and to mature via innovation. Moreover, the establishment of this Practice Base will provide more SFB alumni with better platform and increased opportunities to work and to start their careers in the GBA Area.
Looking into the future, SHNUers and SFBers will pass on the torch of diligence, and keep exploring greater vision. On the path of building a better GBA Area, SFBers will cherish the original aspiration and forge ahead. SFB will, as always, pay attention to the growth and development of its alumni, strengthen the liaison of and provide better services for its alumni, and give full play to connections and resources of its Alumni Association, so that every SFBer who would like to seek aspiration in the GBA Area could open his/her own wonderful chapter in this beautiful area.
